As of October 24, 2020, the Legislative Decree no. 68/2020 named "New provisions on the use of the terms "leather", "hide", "fur" and of those derived from them or their synonyms and the related sanctioning regulations, pursuant to article 7 of the law of 3 May 2019, no. 37 - European law 2018" entered into force in Italy. According to such decree, it is not allowed to use the terms "leather", “hide” and similar terms in a misleading manner to describe materials that do not derive from animal remains. This does not apply to products that are regulated under the EU Directive 94/11/EC ("Footwear Directive").
