Struggling to Get Sales – 90% of My Revenue Goes to Ads, Still Barely Selling

Hi everyone,

I could really use some advice. I’ve been selling on Amazon for a while now, but lately it’s been frustrating and honestly a bit demotivating.

Right now, about 90% of my earnings go straight into ads. Despite this, I’m barely selling a few units a week. My goal is to sell at least 20 units per day, but I feel like I’m stuck in a cycle — spending on ads, getting a few clicks, and still no consistent traction.

What’s confusing is that I see similar products (sometimes even exact same ones) selling over 400+ units per month, with no reviews or much listing optimization. Meanwhile, I’m pouring in money, optimizing everything, and getting nowhere.

I’m already operating at a loss and don’t know what else to tweak — pricing, keywords, images, title length, A+ content, all done.

What am I missing?

Any strategies, tips, or tough truths would be appreciated

Thanks in advance.

Hi @Seller_i6S8knzW6zU6Z, I’ve been going through a tough time with my Amazon business. I would love to hear from you about my situation. I recently saw a few posts of you helping sellers going through the same situation.

Hi @Seller_68CmxLcP7n8Rn,

Thank you very much for tagging me — I’m glad to hear that some of my earlier comments were helpful. I’m currently taking a few days off, but I’d be happy to take a closer look at your situation on Monday. In the meantime, maybe you can already comment on a few initial points:

I looked up the store name shown in your seller forum profile and found two products:

  1. Magnetic Blocks
  2. Belt of Hajj/Umrah with Tasbeeh Counter

Could you confirm if this is your store and if these are your products?

The Magnetic Tiles Building Blocks seem to take some visual inspiration from the Minecraft aesthetic. Just to flag this early — have you already checked for potential licensing or IP risks? I’m only asking to help you avoid any issues later on.

Regarding the Hajj belt: I assume the product idea is primarily tied to pilgrimage — is that correct? Would you be open to exploring broader use cases (e.g., travel belt, everyday carry, event security, meditation, general prayer)? Or would you prefer to keep the listing focused strictly on pilgrimage?

And lastly, between the two products — which one is currently your main focus? That’ll help us dive deeper into the more relevant one next week.

Looking forward to continuing the conversation with you then. I'm sure others in the community will have helpful insights as well. Wishing you a restful weekend in the meantime!

Best regards,

Michael

I’m in the same boat here, I’ve emailed amazon multiple times and get really abhorrently terrible responses if any response at all. I am paying over 60% in fees to amazon on top of the terrible sales numbers. I wish today I could go back in time and tell myself Amazon is a terrible business partner for small business and actively works to extort and ruin small businesses on amazon. After product fees and the actual cost of materials that go into the products in at a massive loss now. The only way to prop it up is to be a massive jerk and pump up the prices but then no one buys. They’ve left no room for profit and I’m in the process of closing my amazon store because AMAZON has ruined it. Wild the level of sheer greed from them. My best advices to all other sellers is simply stop doing business with amazon. I’ve held back all my product I was going to send in to fba but I’m going to list it on eBay and just do pop up sales in person this summer to burn off the product.

TLDR: Amazon is an abhorrently terrible business partner that destroyed my small business on amazon with amazon fees and extremely terrible customer service. Stop doing business with these people. They don’t care about you, only their stock on wall street.

We feel your pain! Cut back on running ads or lower the bids. It has been slow for us as well so trust and believe, it's not you alone.

Yes it happens sometimes. But make sure your keywords should be relevant and don't forget to use negative keywords. When I started I wasted $5k in 1 month and just got 10-12 sales. But someone suggested me some tricks to make the changes in my campaign. Now sales are good and Acos is just 17%.

So please check your campaign and instead running 1 big campaign try to run multiple campaign with $10-20 a day.
