Inbound Placement fee should at least allow us to choose location
Amazon is getting ridiculous with exceptionally complex fee structure at nearly every end. It reminds me of my cable TV bill from 10 years ago. Cable service is "$99/per month" + $60 in a littony of additional random "fees," leading to $160 per month total.
Fees for to much inventory, fees for too little inventory, fees for sending in inventory, etc...
With the new Inventory Placement fees, at least allow us to choose which inventory center we are sending our items too (we are paying for the placement anyways right?). We are located in Southern California, where Amazon has some of the highest density of FBA Warehouse. We are sending in 5 pallets, and they are having us send to Northeast USA literally 2500+ miles which makes our shipping cost go from $300 per pallet local, to $800+ per pallet cross country.
Also to top off, most of our customer base is on West Coast USA (about 50% of all of our orders are California Oregon), so it logically would make sense for our placement to be in SoCal. So Amazon is making us pay the maximum amount of shipping fee 2500+ miles cross country, and then pay $1800+ "Inventory placement fee" to send most of it back to SoCal.
At least allow us to pick a local Fulfillment center to send out items to, this would save up $2300 + just in shipping cost to be able to send it local. Since Amazon is charging us placement fee anyways, we should be able to select a local center to consolidate shipping at the minimum.
Amazon is going down a really bad path and long term this is going to lose them a lot. The platform has been slowly turning from seller friendly, to maximum seller hostile with insane amounts of fees at every corner. Most of these fees make it really hard to calculate the actual total fees for using the platform, and I think this is by intention. Even if you want to raise the fees, just bake it into 1 simple price to be buyer friendly, instead of trying to hide the true cost into 10 smaller hidden sub-fees.
The weird thing about FBA, is they still charge a universal shipping fee no matter what the distance, which doesn't make sense considering Amazon is too eager to charge fees at every other turn possible. Does it really make sense to have the same shipping cost no matter what the distance? Who wants to bet the brilliant MBA's at Amazon corporate are trying to think of ways to start charging fees for "distance from FBA center" fees.

Hi @Seller_aYU9Ks7KFgEZT,
I appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts here! I will pass this feedback along internally, however, I did want to chime in and provide some additional information on the inbound placement fee.
Please note that the availability of the inbound placement options are based on several factors, including the product types and quantities that you have in your shipping plan, your existing inventory levels across our network, and the location of customer demand.
Additionally, inbound placement options will be provided only when your shipments qualify. Factors that affect the number of inbound options include the following:
- Whether your shipment includes a mix of standard-size items, non-standard-size items, or special handling categories
- Whether each box contains the same mix and quantities of SKUs
- Quantities and number of boxes for each item
- Geographical demand
To maximize the number of inbound options, please try the following:
- Create separate shipments for standard-size items, non-standard-size items, and each special handling category
- Ensure the item mix and item quantities are equal across all boxes
- Increase the number of boxes
For more information, please read through the "2024 FBA inbound placement service fee" help page.
I hope this helps clarify a bit further. Please let me know if you have any questions!
Thanks again,
Jameson
