Order from a business customer
Hi I had an order from a business customer but did not think this would be any different to our normal orders. We manufacture ladies lingerie and do not sell to retailers or have any authorised re sellers. We have no trade customers and all our garments are sold direct to the “end user”.
The business buyer is a book seller so not sure how he is going to argue to his accountant the purchase of a pair of ladies knickers as a justified business expense! Payment is outstanding for goods ordered 19th March.
What does concern me is the 45 days wait for payment (information gleaned from this forum).
Is there any way I can opt our of selling to businesses? Do I have to alter my seller settings somewhere?.
This one off order does not present a problem but I would not want a business buyer purchasing a few garments to re-sell without our permission, which we would certainly not give, and in effect asking for a trade account with 30+ days to pay. We were involved in that type of business for too long in the 1980’s and 90’s and trade customers taking advantage of a business account to delay payment for goods delivered can be harmful to company cash flow.
I am sure the answers to my questions are out there somewhere but can’t seem to find anything relevant.

No, you have to accept business orders. There is no opt out.
Except you are charging retail, not wholesale prices so would a reseller really have much opportunity to make a margin?

Seriously… who cares? You have no idea if this customer intends to claim this purchase as a business expense. Just fill the order and move on. Your customer’s business expenses are a matter for them and HMRC. It’s none of your concern.

I think I have a business account (Not sure, under my bosses name)
He buys a lot of personal stuff on it and uses his own personal debit card, any business stuff is purchased using the business card
Accountant only looks and matches up purchases using the business card.
Your buyer is probably just using a different payment method
