Amazon is charging Placement Fee for quantity 1? How is this right? Is this a bug or what?

Basically, Amazon is charging placement fee to distribute our inventories to have closer proximities with buyers.

I made a quick test sending 1 piece of a small item. As the quantity is only 1, there is nothing for Amazon to distribute to different warehouses, but in total fee, Amazon is charging placement fee.

That is how they make money many time it seems they ship your items to opposite coast good for them bad for you. Items get a lot of wear the more the move them around if you watch that one item it will seem like it spends more time in transit than for sale.

Hi @Seller_4kihuYRVZDER6, Dominic made a post under a different thread on this topic. Read through the second bullet point there. Do you have this option available?

Partial or Amazon-optimized shipment splits: Send your inventory to multiple inbound locations yourself for a reduced or no fee. The reduced fees will depend on the number of shipments and inbound locations that you send your inventory to. For instance, if your shipping plan qualifies, you can select the inbound placement option to send your inventory to the optimal number of inbound locations recommended by Amazon, generally four or more locations, and pay no fee. If you select the placement option in which you send your inventory to a partial number of inbound locations, generally two or three, you will pay a reduced fee.

EVERYONE RAISE YOUR PRICES NOW. We all know we need to raise our prices. This is how we can respond as sellers. Don't expect Amazon to reverse it. Every year its either a new fee or increase fee and this just got out of hand. Literally I have to raise my product prices a $1. That's fine. I can be content with that because Amazon will not be the cheapest platform offering anymore compared to other selling platforms including your own website. Remember this its our business. Not Amazons. We don't need to fund them going to the moon. We need to fund our employees and families first. Suffer a little, gain a lot more of your own. My example is I use to ship for $12-$13 a box. Today its just under $60 a box for $8.99 product (not anymore). Ok, fine amazon don't split my units. Ship it to Illinois and leave it and ship to customers across the US. That's why we pay you an FBA fee. That's your Prime promise to the customer. That's not ours as sellers. We fulfilled our obligations and complied with your guidelines as sellers. You are passing inflation onto us. Well unfortunately we have to pass those down to our customers too. Folks take a risk increase prices. We wont regret it. Its not our first risk we have taken in our life and in business. Believe in our selves lets do it.

One last thought just out of curiosity. Is this impacting sellers in China that ship directly to US warehouses? Interesting.

late to the party.

You are incorrect that there is nothing to send around to other fulfillment, as there is 1 item. Amazon wont keep your 1 item at your local fulfillment and will send it around.

Additionally, the thing is dynamic, so you may even be getting a higher fee because you are ONLY sending in 1 item

I'm facing the same issue. Despite reducing my shipment from 9 SKUs to just 1 SKU, I still can't access the Amazon-optimized shipment split and Partial shipment split options. I've already spent over $400 on two shipments, which usually cost around $18 each. I hope Amazon addresses this issue ASAP.

Just because you are shipping in 1 item doesn't mean they won't transfer it, but they should definitely be offering to let you ship that to the final destination FC and avoid the fee. Granted it will probably be cheaper to just pay the fee, but still there seems to be something wrong with their algorithm not even giving people a choice.
