Amazon approves an A-Z claim for $700 even with a signed proof of delivery???

I received an email from a customer stating that the parcel was not received..I replied that for some reason Fedex claimed there was a disruption but it is being returned to me. Upon receiving it I immediately reshipped it...as we know I can't use AMAZON postage a second time so I sent it USPS with signature required.

In the meantime they opened an A-Z claim unknown to me.

When I did receive notification of this claim I quickly responded with the new tracking and a transcript of the dialogue between the customer and I.

They denied it...I appealed it and again denied.

Since then I've opened multiple cases with the help of AMAZON reps and have uploaded the official signed proof of delivery from USPS...every time I receive an email from amazon that states "We understand your frustration but we stand by our decision."

Is there any recourse for this?? It's not $20...it's $700. What more can I show AMAZON but a signed proof of delivery straight from USPS? I've reached out to the customer but of course they've ghosted me.

A better way to deal with it would have been to refund, then have them re-purchase the item. Without a tracking number in the system that Amazon can see delivery was made (on time), buyer wins. Putting the tracking number in a message to the buyer is not in the Amazon tracking space. They need to see it attached to an order.

Scroll the forums for a few minutes, and you will notice these threads all over.

If an A to Z is opened, you lose as the seller. There is no winning appeals, but just scroll a page or two and you will see. I do not ship any items over 30 bucks on Amazon anymore. I took 85% of my inventory off Amazon a couple months ago, I sell much more protected as a seller on Shopify, eBay, and Etsy.

Have you considered filing a theft report with the post office? (I believe the amount would result in a Federal felony.) That might get the buyer's attention. Just a question. It might make other scammers sit up and take notice.

Small claims court in your county. You have proof of signature delivery. Money sent to you at your location and the item shipped from your location. They won't show up and you win by default. (Even if they "zoom" appear, you have the proof of delivery). May take years to get the funds, but it goes in a national database and their credit is screwed until the payment is satisfied. And you draw interest the whole time. It works, I've done it. And I have a court date this month for a similar transaction. Last time I did this, the person got a divorce and tried to refinance their home, but guess what? Outstanding judgement needed to be paid before bank would refinance. It took over 10 years, but I got my money! $700 is a lot of money to lose! It'll cost you $150 for filing and serving the complaint, and you can ask the court for reimbursement and you might get it. Better to be out $150 than $700! We sellers do not get ANY support from this platform! (And we are "customers" of them as well), although we don't get treated like customers. Very frustrating.

@Seller_kNAboD6kRgVt7is correct. As far as Amazon is concerned, the second tracking number could be for anything; in spite of your communication with the buyer. This is why you should never do an address change for a customer or ship anything without it being on it's own order in the Amazon system. You are going to be out the money unless the buyer is willing to ask Amazon to bill their card for the transaction. Even then it is unlikely that amazon will even do so.

As a first step, save copies of the signature and tracking history (sounds like you have this though). After a certain amount of days, the tracking disappears.

2) Tomorrow, open a missing mail claim with USPS. You can do this online or on the phone. I recommend the phone. The online site is riddled with error messages. Let them start to investigate. They will get in touch with the post office that actually delivered the package. I've never dealt with signature confirmation before so I don't know what the process is there, but get USPS involved. Also ask them to do a GPS trace when the local post office reaches out to you. If they do a GPS trace, ask them to send you a screenshot of where the package was left.

3) You could write to the customer, be nice, and state you will be opening up USPS Inspection Service since the package hasn't been found. You need to craft this email carefully. Do not accept blame by saying you are sorry or blame or threaten the buyer. Avoid the use of "you."

---------------------------------------------

Dear X,

We recently were notified that the X item from Order X was reported as missing. Lost packages can be frustrating, but we will start a claim with USPS to see if they can locate the package.

As the package was shipped through USPS with insurance and signature confirmation, a claim with the USPS Inspection Service will be opened. USPS uses GPS when delivering all packages and they are able to view the signer information; therefore, they will be able to identify if this package was left at the wrong residence. USPS will also be able to investigate for theft and any fraudulent matters related to the loss of this item. A police report will also be opened in case this is linked to any area crime and so an insurance claim can be filed.

Please let us know if you are able to locate the package. Per USPS, they recommend checking for missing packages with other household members and neighbors.

Thank you,

X

-------------------------------

You might want to use 3 as a last approach though. Amazon might not like a seller sending that message, but I don't think they can prohibit a seller filing a claim with USPS or reporting mail fraud. Might want to check their Ts&Cs.

With this said, if the customer "finds" the package, you can try to request it back. Although it will no longer be new, you might be able to recoup something.

This is a sucky situation. I hope you make some headway.
