US seller (SOLE TRADER) based in EU - VAT registered?
Hello,
I am based in EU - Czech Republic, but I am selling in the USA through FBA. I am also sole proprietor (do not have llc) do I still need to be VAT registered in my country? I am writing this in regard to DAC7. I had tried to fill the column for VAT registration to use my personal tax identification number (TIN)...but then I got message I have an invalid VAT.
Do I need to be VAT registered as a sole proprietor?
Thank you

DAC7 will ask your "Business and identity info", "Business Registration Number" (that is normally your tax number in your country) and as an identic number the "Citizen ID".
This has been made to avoid tax evasion of European citizens.
Adding a VAT number is NOT mandatory, but I highly recommend you to to this. If you don't require a VAT number (VIES!) Amazon will collect from you the VAT on ALL fees: monthly fee, FBA fees, ads, removal fees, anything. Amazon is legally obliged to do so and to send this VAT to YOUR country.
You have nothing to loose requesting your national VAT number - in the contrary. For anything you purchase in your country for your business you have to pay VAT. If you own a VAT number, you file a VAT return all 3 or 6 months and you will get the paied VAT back.
