Return request started a long time ago
I have someone that bought one of my products and started a return 35 days ago, i was under the impression that amazons refund policy is 30 days. I don't offer returns past the time that amazon allows customers, but the return request is still open. Should i click "Complete" to close it out or does it close out automatically at some point? They never returned the item and its not in not in transit.

it takes about 50 days for the alert to disappear if the buyer never returns the item.

I never click on 'close' because I figure that Amazon will send a 'reminder' to them and then they return it!
Until the package is scanned it will not get deducted from your account.
As @Seller_Sram36TnVt73c notes, it can take Amazon an eternity to remove the return bur let them do it when they get around to it.

It's 30 days from RECEIPT OR whatever an incompetent, friendly Customer Service rep (buyer side) decides it will be. They get carried away and have no clue what the real policies are.

amzn issued the refund to CLOSED return request at 52nd day. The interesting thing is the request was closed at 45th day. Somehow, amzn was still able to refund customer.
i have a literally damage item which was returned to me and my Safe T Claim keeps getting denied. I wonder if there is the 2nd one, who knows what the customer could do to the item within 52 days.

If within five days of the return date they have not returned it, I complete it as not returned.

As far as I was aware, Amazon's basic return policy is that if 30 days have passed and the customer has still not returned the item, then it is considered completed - as in, you can safely mark the request as completed without fulfilling a refund to the customer. You can go into the return request and look at the tracking number for their return package to see its status. I always close them out if I have not received the item back after 30 days, but also the moment I get a return request, I message the customer instructing them that upon receipt of the item back to us, we will issue a full refund.

Hello @Seller_a84mYtOUSbbKZ
Thank you for posting to the Forums and to members of the community for the guidance provided.
I came across your thread and wanted to provide this help page, specifically highlighting the bottom section that states:
"Important: Generally, our return window is open for 30 days. However, the timing may vary based on the product category. Following authorization of a return request, you must wait until the return window closes followed by a transit time of 15 days for a buyer to return an item."
Please feel free to update this thread if you need additional assistance regarding this concern.
Regards,
