Maybe just my experience however I’ve noticed the following twice, I think !

Without advertising and depending on organic search only I had a number of sessions. So I started to advertise and as expected the session numbers increased above the organic level. After a while I stopped advertising and the sessions plummeted. In fact significantly below the previous organic search numbers. I thought this unusual so I started adverting again and sessions increased to previous advertising level. I stopped advertising and the same happened again sessions falling well below the initial organic level.

I made no other changes at the time.
