Customer claims they received an empty package and want a refund

I have a customer who claims the order they received was empty and now wants a refund. This is physically impossible as no less than 3 separate people (including myself) check each order for accuracy before it goes out. I get the feeling this person is stealing by demanding a refund. What are my options here?

Which carrier did you use to ship it?

Did you purchase your sipping through Amazon?

I usually use USPS so these are my steps:

1. Report the issue through the USPS website... click help then find missing mail.

2. I let the customer know I'm working with the US Postal Inspector to find their package and to give me two business days for a response from them. I let the buyer know that if USPS is not able to locate their items I will instruct them on how to file an A to Z claim.

3. Wait for a response from USPS. Meanwhile most scammers will get spooked by this process and tell you that they found their package.

4. If USPS is not helpful after 2 days or tells you that the package was in fact delivered intact then respond to the customer explaining what you've discovered and if they still wish to file an A to Z claim give them instructions on that procedure.

The above only applies if you used USPS and you purchased your shipping through Amazon and you got the acceptance scan on the carriers website on or before Amazon ship-by date.

This has all the Hallmarks of a scamming buyer.

I just received a message from a customer that they received an empty box and is demanding a full refund. Two separate individuals, including myself, check the order for accuracy before it is shipped. Have you resolved this issue? What do you recommend?
