Applying for VAT refund - Amazon sending canned messages

I am based in the UK, selling exclusively in the USA marketplace.

I applied to be VAT exempt back in December and provided documents. Amazon told me i'm now VAT exempt in their system and to wait until January (1 month from being updated in their system) to claim the VAT refund on all charges up to the date i was awarded the status.

I have contacted Amazon in January as instructed by the Amazon rep. The first time i contacted them, they said they transferred the case and closed it without resolving the issue, nor did they give any response.

The second time i contacted amazon for my refund, they are sending me canned responses every week saying that they are either transferring my case or looking into it. It seems like i'm just going in circles in their system.

Below are the same 2 responses i have been getting for the past month... every week, they send me one or the other.

Hello @Seller_DANEvjfOKUHxz,

Thanks for your post. Sellers may receive a request for information from Amazon to confirm where their business is established. This is a requirement under both the UK and EU VAT laws and we aim to minimize any inconvenience it may cause to your business.

Why is this information required?

Online retailers, including Amazon, are required to undertake steps to confirm where a Seller is established in order to comply with VAT law.

In addition to any information already provided to Amazon, we may require further information from a Seller as part of our due diligence and the ability for Sellers to disburse funds may be temporarily restricted while this takes place.

UK VAT on E-commerce legislation

Further information on the documentation required is available HERE.

Under UK legislation introduced on 1st January 2021, Amazon is required to collect and remit VAT for Sellers that are established outside the UK. Further information will be provided to Sellers where this applies.

You can see the following thread on this if you click HERE.

I will review case ID 14663581441 and respond back shortly with next steps.

Thank you for your patience.

Cheers,

Micah

Hi Reticuli_Sport,

I'd be interested in hearing if you had any success with your issue and whether it was resolved or not? Please update the thread as I'm in a similar situation.

Many thanks.
