Selling Restriction Question. Just starting up PLZ HELP.

Hello , i am new to FBA, i have most of my information and knowledge Via tutorials and videos, so i have just opened my account and am trying to get the feel of the platform out. i had planned to begin with Retail Arbitriage and then move on to White labeling or "Dropshipping" off bulk sites after and if i do some decent returns off of the Abritriage.

Anyway, my main question is about this , id say, HUGELY SIGNIFIGANT issue with the BRAND GATING/SELLER RESTRICTIONS , when beginning. people post these videos on Youtube literally ALLDAY making its seem like its just 1, 2 ,3 jump on , get Helium or SellersAMP , go down to your local wholesalers and scan away till you find a good markup, and almost NOBODY MENTIONs this BRAND GATING. After finding out that its basically next to Impossible to do retail Arbitrage method when first starting out, because there is literally a restriction on 80% of products, especially the ones in stores like walmart, targe, marshalls, ross , etc.

I know that theres only 2 ways to get through this , and thats by selling and waiting the test of time through Amazons mystery size up of when they want to let you just get auto-approval, OR to buy 10 units of an item and repeatedly send the invoice until they accept it and ungate you.

Now, the million dollar question for me is, if i go the route of producing invoices and buying 10 units online and sending in my invoices, does that then Ungate the ENTIRE BRAND? or just THAT SPECIFIC ITEM??

E.g -- If i go to an Official Nike Partner online , and buy 10 Nike Sweatbands. They approve the invoice. Would i then be unrestricted to sell ALL NIKE PRODUCTS? (shirts, shoes, pants, gym bags, etc.)??? or do i have to LITERALLY go and buy 10 and produce and new invoice for EVERY, SINGLE. ITEM. that i want to sell under a brandname??

if one item under a brand unlocks the whole brand , then its not so bad, but if i have to literally go and buy 10 of any unit i want to sell online, wait for an invoice, and then wait for Amazon to approve it, for EVERY ITEM, well thats just ridiculous AF to me TBH and i might abort the mission all together if so. Thats almost a dealbreaker for i would say 75% of people. It just doesnt make sense if you have to buy 10 of every item you want to sell online and then wait for approval, if theres a deal at your local TJ-max that you can buy 20 of and make 12$ each off of right now. It almost defeats the entire idea or possibility of Retail Arbitriage from the start ALL TOGETHER, am i right or wrong?

ANYWAY, FOR ANYONE WHO DIDNT READ IT ALL OR GOT LOST THE MAIN QUESTION IS. WHEN TRYING TO UNGATE A BRAND/ÍTEM , DOES GETTING AN INVOICE FOR ONE ITEM UNLOCK AN ENTIRE BRAND, OR DOES EVERY SINGLE ITEM , NEED TO HAVE AN INDIVIDUAL INVOICE, REGUARDLESS OF BRAND IN ORDER TO UNGATE AND SELL?

PLEASE HELP ASAP , THANK YOU.

Hey there @Seller_UJgJ9PEYOVz9m- and thanks for joining us here on the seller forums!

Danny here, hoping I have some information and resources that might be of some assistance.

First, I want to make sure you have our help page on the approval process handy. It is true that certain products, categories, and brands require approval to sell on Amazon. There can be multiple layers of approval needed if Amazon requires approval to sell in a category and approval is needed from the brand to sell their products.

To answer your main question- many brands, and especially large ones, can be gated by the ASIN, so an invoice for a certain product does not always mean a seller account is able to list any items belonging to that brand.

You will want to be sure to have a Letter of Authorization from the brand, and ideally include that letter in your brand application.

In case it helps, this video on invoice requirements has some great information on the process.

Finally, you might be interested in this post on drop shipping dos and don'ts as the topic is mentioned in your post.

Thank you again for engaging here on the seller forums, and I hope this information is helpful.

Best,

Danny
