Handmade at Amazon Best Seller Rank top 100 Has Disappeared

I am a seller on Amazon Handmade, I create handmade jewellery.

Last week I noticed that the departmental best seller top 100 ranking has dissapeared from my product listing pages information. I used to always have the Top 100 in Handmade Drop and Dangle Earrings or Handmade Pendants information displayed down the page, so I could click on that and see where I was on the list, also on the most wished for and most gifted.

Now, all that shows is the Top 100 in the whole of the Handmade department. I can't find the Top 100 list anymore.

I have reached out to Amazon and after 6 days I have not had a response, I have contacted them on X and have been told to wait but my case is showing as having been transferred. There is no response or no way to edit or chase it.

I don't know if this is some kind of technical issue with the site or my listings, if they have done away with departments on handmade or tje ranking altogether, or some other problem but I am hardly getting any orders. I always found that when I had sales which made myt items showing up in the Top 100, more would follow.

Please could someone tell me what's going on here, if it's something I can fix tell me so I can do it! Existing Case Number: 10426891982

I noticed this too, sales have dropped a lot, just before the busiest time of year - go Amazon, suspect that this is part of moving handmade to be an attribute - All this will do is kill my shop/products as I think they will not be easily found. by users who are say after top 100 handmade mugs. Also product listing page has changed and is very buggy, just take over 2 hours to list a product with 5 variations - not sure what Amazon's strategy is other than killing of small businesses that don't have the time to try and get their way through the painful listing process

Thanks for your reply.

My sales here started off badly this year after the whole VAT establishment debacle which ran for 61 days with me, they are are dropping by the minute and I can't get a response from Amazon help on this issue.

They never replied to my original case, their helpline on X wouldn't chase it up, kept telling me to wait for them to email, then I finally got an email telling me due to an internal problem they couldn't deal with my query and to send it again. So I did, on the 27th and am still waiting.

I don't understand why they would get rid of this feature, surely anything helping sellers to gain more orders means more fees for them?

I must be missing something because it's just not logical and very poor business sense. I have gone through all of my correspondence and can't find a thing about any of this.

I haven't even tried to list a new product yet, my stress levels are too high to even attempt it

Handmade New Listing Experience and Product Type Reclassification

The Handmade team is making changes to improve customer discoverability of Handmade products in the Amazon stores!

What is changing?

As a reminder to our 2023 announcement, we are beginning a multi-year project to reclassify existing Handmade products from GUILD product types to standard product types.

A product type refers to a set of products that share similar attributes. For example, a lamp within the GUILD_HOME product type would move to the LAMP product type.

Don’t worry— although we are reclassifying your existing Handmade products to standard product types, your existing Handmade products will remain within Amazon’s Handmade category, even after this change.

Why does this matter?

Reclassifying Handmade products into standard product types enables the following features:

Handmade products will appear when customers search and browse in standard categories. This is one of the top feature requests from our Handmade community. As a reminder, Handmade products are already discoverable in all products search.

Better discoverability from refined product searches.

Handmade products will receive enhanced detail page content including larger product images and category-specific detail page features.

Handmade products will appear in Seller Central’s Listing Quality Dashboard (LQD), which you can use to improve your Handmade products’ listing quality.

Ability to list a single ASIN in eight marketplaces.

After we reclassify your Handmade products to standard product types, you will see the new listing experience that we launched earlier this year on your reclassified products. If your product has been reclassified, you will find the Handmade Classification attribute present on your product.

When we reclassify your products, they will not lose your sales history, ratings, or reviews. However, your reclassified products’ sales ranks will change from ranking within Handmade to ranking within their corresponding standard product types.

What if I want to enjoy the new benefits right away?

If you do not want to wait for Amazon to reclassify your existing Handmade products, you are welcome to relist your existing Handmade products using the new listing experience so your products receive these additional benefits. Keep in mind, relisting a product will generate a new ASIN. New ASINs will not carry over existing sales history, ratings, or reviews from your previous ASIN.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are differences between Reclassified listings vs. Relisting?

Reclassified products

Newly listed products

Your reclassified products will retain their customer reviews.

Your newly listed products will not retain your existing customer reviews.

Your reclassified products will retain their product rating.

Your newly listed products will not retain your existing product rating.

Your reclassified products will retain their sales ranking, however, your sales ranks will change in ranking to correspond with the new standard product types.

Your newly listed products will not retain your existing sales ranking.

You will have to wait until we reclassify your products through 2024 – 2025 to benefit from many of the added discoverability and new attribute features.

Early access to new attributes to improve discoverability.

Early access to appear when customers search and browse in standard categories.

Early access to listing a single ASIN in eight marketplaces.

Early access to the Listing Quality Dashboard, which you can use to improve your Handmade products’ listing quality to drive sales and reduce returns.

Does this mean that my products will no longer be part of Amazon’s Handmade category?

No. Your products will continue to belong to Amazon’s Handmade category, Handmade store, Handmade search, and all products search, even after they are reclassified to standard product types.

Will reclassification change my Handmade products’ fees?

No. There will be no impact to your Handmade products’ fees as a result of reclassification to standard product types.

What is a product type?

A product type refers to a set of products that share similar attributes. Each product type has a corresponding template that allows you to provide relevant information about the product. Product-specific attributes are tagged as recommended and providing data for these recommended attributes helps improve the overall shopping experience by helping customers make informed buying decisions. These attributes are used to improve the customer experience in search and on the product detail page.

What are the current product types for Handmade products?

Currently, Handmade products are classified under nine broad GUILD product types: GUILD_ACCESSORIES, GUILD_APPAREL, GUILD_BABY, GUILD_BEAUTY_GROOMING, GUILD_HOME, GUILD_JEWELRY, GUILD_PET_SUPPLIES, GUILD_SHOES, GUILD_TOYS_AND_GAMES.

Which standard product types will Handmade products be reclassified?

Handmade products will be reclassified into hundreds of more granular product types. For example, Handmade sandals will be reclassified from the GUILD_SHOES product type to the SANDAL product type; Handmade necklaces will be reclassified from the GUILD_JEWELRY product type to the NECKLACE product type; Handmade pillows will be reclassified from the GUILD_HOME product type to the PILLOW product type; and so on.

Am I required to update my products?

Yes. You will be required to provide new required attributes when you edit your existing listings. The specific attributes that are required will vary based on your listings’ standard product types.

For example, for listings in the SHOES product type, you will be required to provide the footwear_size attribute. As another example, in order to save changes to your products that are variation parents, you will need to provide: CPSIA attribute (cpsia_cautionary_statement.value), Supplier Package Type attribute (supplier_package_type.value), and for Fulfiled by Amazon (FBA) products, the fulfilment center receiving and fulfilment center storage attributes. To view new required attributes, navigate to Seller Central’s Listing Quality Dashboard where you can update your products

My Handmade products are customisable; are they still eligible for reclassification?

Yes! Customisation does not impact whether or not products are eligible for reclassification.

Some of my listings have been reclassified but others have not. What should I do?

Nothing. Handmade plans to reclassify products from 2024 to 2025. If you don’t see your Handmade products in Seller Central reclassified right away, rest assured, it’s coming.

May I request Amazon to reclassify my Handmade products?

No. We plan to reclassify products from 2024 to 2025. Selling Partner Support cannot manually move your Handmade products to standard product types.

My Handmade products are in Fulfilled by Amazon (FBA); are they still eligible for reclassification?

Yes! FBA does not impact whether or not products are eligible for reclassification. However, products in FBA will require you to populate the fulfillment center receiving and fulfillment center storage attributes when editing your existing FBA listings.

How can I improve discoverability of my Handmade products before they’re reclassified into standard product types?

There are several steps you can take to improve discoverability of your Handmade products before they’re reclassified into standard product types:

Ensure your listings have bullet points, keywords, and optional attributes populated.

Update your products to use variations instead of customisations, where applicable (e.g., for different colors and sizes).

Enroll your products in Sponsored Advertisements.

Enroll your products in Fulfiled by Amazon so they qualify for Prime shipping.

What happens when I need to add a new variational child to a listing that has already been reclassified to a standard product type?

If you add a new variational child to a listing that has already been reclassified to a standard product type, then the new variational child will be listed in the standard product type.

How does reclassification impact variation families?

Reclassifying variation families may require additional actions from you to update your listings. If so, we will communicate additional information on required actions.

What if I edit my existing listings using a feed/inventory file?

You will need to download a new feed template for your products’ categories. Then you will need to provide attributes into the new template and upload the file. Learn more about how to upload via the inventory file here.

Can I copy listings for Handmade products that are already reclassified in order to list new Handmade products in standard product types?

Yes. You can copy listings that have already been reclassified.

Can I copy listings that haven't been reclassified in order to list new Handmade products in standard product types?

No. You will need to list new Handmade products in standard product types rather than listing them in the previous GUILD product types.

What’s next?

Look out for future emails on Handmade product type reclassification. We will be sharing more tips and best practices to help you make the most of your Handmade products being discoverable in standard categories.

Warm regards,

The Handmade Team

my take is that its great if you have a top 100 handmade product but not great for anything outside of this. I think this is forcing sellers to advertise or sales will be reduced. I think sales will drop because of the top 100 handmade type list haves gone. When listing you will need an barcode exemption and have to put handmade and what type as attributes. Knowing amazon this will have bugs and lead to frustrations on listings. The only up side I see is that if you get a product that takes off sales will be much larger as now the products are in the main categories. Yes you're probably right, but that's just not feasible for someone like me who is a sole trader and simply cannot produce my handmade products in large volumes, if I advertised I just couldn't keep up with demand. They forget how different a genuine small handmade business is to any other.

All the big sites seem to choose October to make big changes and it's the worst possible time they could do this . I am going to have to concentrate my efforts back with my other platform again instead of this one.

Thank you for posting that,

Oh God, well that's that then. So they definitely have got rid of everyone's ranking in the handmade section. Great timing as ever.

My handmade products will likely now be on the last page behind all the bulk sellers. I simply can't make hundreds of pairs of the same earrings in order to compete with an overseas wholesaler of factory made earrings.

What is going to become of small volume sole traders like me on Amazon?

my take is that its great if you have a top 100 handmade product but not great for anything outside of this. Doing the change on the handmade list now isn't the best timing for us but Amazon really are not bothered about the impact on small sellers - good luck to us all

We've been going back and forth with Amazon about this for the past month or so, our sales have dropped over 30% and this is supposed to be our busiest time of year!
